Poetry

Thanks

I tried to look happy sometimes

When you could see me

I put on a show and hope you’d believe me

I couldn’t bear to lose you

So I tried to choose to

Be someone else to hide the ugly inside

I wonder if you knew the whole time that I lied

But watching you over the years

You chased away my fears

I wonder now when I became the me I was projecting

Or when I realized you didn’t need protecting

Was there a moment when I snapped into place?

Was it a touch of your hand or a smile on your face?

And now we are together, you and I

And I myself have become the lie

Now truth, I suppose and I suppose I should thank you

For all of the times and happy memories I wouldn’t have if not for you

Thank you for gluing back the pieces

When the tension inside me releases

Thanks
