Penance

by Kaitlyn W., Age 14 , Grade 8, Rossville Middle School, Rossville , GEORGIA USA
Teacher: Jurczack

You seemed to get to me when I’m at my worst
And who was to blame you
You didn’t know any better according to a piece of paper
You burned the bridges but I used them to light the way
I may not be okay, I might not have made the best choices
But never will I turn out to be like you
Run from your problems
Lie to the people who need you the most
Burn those bridges
But that's okay because it was only ameliorating you
And I only ever worried about your well being
You were the one I wanted
Now I’m going to show you out
I’m better than you
Because I actually care about other people
I care for them
I’m always there when they need me
I won’t leave them
I guess I learned from a young age
I wasn’t supposed to act like
My mother.
