A Whole World of Reading
By Ben M.
It was Christmas of 2009, and I could still hear my Dad reading, "Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung, on the chimny with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas, soon would be there." And that was pretty much one of my first memories of reading. That memory is really important because every Christmas I read that same book. Though just so you know, it was my dad who read it. I don't know if I was dreaming of candy dancing in my head, but I sure dreamed something.
Then many years later, what was it, first grade? I found a book at the free book stand, and I took it home and didn't read it until later. Then when my parents and I were looking for a chapter book I'd enjoy, I found the book under my bed in the bedroom. When I began reading The Magic Treehouse Dinosaurs before dawn, I discovered that books are not only words, they're magical stories. The first one was about a girl and her brother who found a treehouse. They climbed the rope ladder and when they reach the top, they find a lot of books. The boy picks up a dinosaur book, and he utters the words, "I wish I could see a dinosaur," then somehow, they go back in time! Today I've read at least fifty Magic Tree House books and by far they're one of my all-time favorite series of books. Then after fifth grade, I also learned that books are not only magical stories, they're HORROR stories! That's when I read Goosebumps Monter Blood, and to this day, Goosebumps is my favorite series because I just really like reading about young kids' adventures. Just so you know on my rate, Say Cheese and die, was the scariest Goosebumps book.
Throughout the years I've had success in reading books quickly and fluently, ALTHOUGH, I've struggled with finding books I like because there aren't many books I'm interested in, and if I don't really like what I'm reading, sometimes I find myself reading the same sentence over and over and over again. Goosebumps works out really well because when I was in our RV, I began reading Monster Blood, I couldn't stop reading it so I found myself done in FOUR DAYS! It was then I decided to read for pleasure, but also for homework. Back then I didn't like reading, and it was just another homework assignment, and the Magic Tree House series was getting a little bit more boring by the minute.
Me as a reader now, I enjoy the pleasure of reading, and I'm done with my Gravity falls Journal 3 book. Even though I read all these amazing things, I still read stuff like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Gumball novels, Minecraft, I Survived, hopefully, and Back to the Future Graphic Novels! Someday I really wish to find a new series of books that really gives a kick in the face. Huh, there's good figurative language. Anyway, I hope you too will read many amazing things. This is Ben M, typing off.
