by Rhianna N., Age 15 , Grade 9

I am a garden

Not secret

Nor devine

But one in which you have planted

with heart and love

And here, I’ve bloomed

In your recollection and admiration

Explored by your fingertips and mapped by your eyes

You’ve turned me into a wonderland

But I’m not graceful

And I’ll rot without careful managing

And the flowers you planted in my lungs have brought butterflies to my stomach and

I’m suffocating in myself

And drowning in the torrential downpour of what I’ve created

And how I’ve lived amongst all of myself

It’s dark outside and you’re the porch light

And I’m sorry you have to stay on all night long
