Where I'm From

by Alex L., Age 12 , Grade 7, South East Junior High, Iowa City, IOWA USA
Teacher: Mr. Keller-Wilson

I am from IOWA.

I am from long summer days. Eating hot steaming Pho,

And walking and wandering down dusty roads, spiky plants leaving red marks on my legs.

From big red bug bites left irritated.

I am from swimming in smelly pools filled with chlorine, and drinking chilly ice water.

From shimmery sparklers on the 4th of July.

I am from MY HOUSE.

I am from pastel blue walls, a little bumpy.

And seeing my little neon green fish near my front door everyday.

I am from stained and faded grey carpet.

And I am from my creaky bed that creaks high pitched.

I am from MY GRANDMA’S HOUSE.

From the shiny dark brown wood floors.

I am from the paintings in my Grandma’s house and the fuzzy rug.

From the white textured walls all over the houses to the cool downstairs.

I am from SOUTH EAST.

I am from the red and white inside, and the bright smartboards.

From the hot classrooms and the blaring bell at the end of every period.

I am from the huge windows the bright sun shining.
